| Skills to Empower People to Understand Parrots ("STEP-UP!") Three Workshops in 2010: April 16-19; August 20-23; and November 12-15
Phoenix Landing Foundation is sponsoring three Friday through Sunday workshops this year designed to give people an abundance of information about parrot care, from behavior and health, to nutrition and enrichment. In addition to lectures, there will be hands-on training sessions, cooking classes, and time to discuss issues of specific importance to you. You will work with the current foster birds at the Phoenix Landing facility, so you can teach behavior, foraging and feeding new foods first hand. Class size limited to 12 people in order to ensure that everyone has the opportunity for plenty of hands-on training. The location for the workshop is The Landing near Asheville, NC; a beautiful destination point in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

| Parrot Training Retreat at Cockatoo Downs September 17-20, 2010
Because of popular demand, a second Parrot Training Retreat is scheduled at Cockatoo Downs in September. This will be a repeat of the July 9-12, 2010 Parrot Training Retreat which sold out within weeks of anouncement. The Parrot Training Retreat at Cockatoo Downs is a practical basic to moderate training skills event open to anyone interested in training companion parrots. The Retreat will be four days of instruction and fun focusing on teaching the fundamentals of positive reinforcement training for companion parrots. As the Retreat is centered on training companion parrots, you have the option of bringing your own bird to train. There will be facilities at Cockatoo Downs to house your parrot day and night during the course of the Retreat. As a participant you will be training your own bird, the resident parrots and cockatoos at Cockatoo Downs, and chickens. Yes, chickens! During the course of the Retreat you will learn the fundamentals of clicker training and chickens are excellent students on which to practice your clicker training skills. World Parrot Trust Parrot Lover's Cruise 2010 November 7-14
The 2nd annual Parrot Lover's Cruise, one of the most spectacular cruises for parrot enthusiasts is sailing from San Juan, Puerto Rico - November 7 - 14, 2010. If you love parrots, and are looking for a great vacation and a chance to help parrot conservation, this is the cruise for you. Each cruise brings you the very best speakers on a variety of topics about parrots and this year will be no exception. The speakers will educate and enthuse you about training and behavior, the state of the parrots in the wild, and the work of the World Parrot Trust. As part of this cruise, you will enjoy 2-4 presentations while at sea as well as having the option to participate in educational shore excursions on Puerto Rico, Bonaire and Dominica. Steve Martin Steve Martin began his professional animal training career when he set up his first of its kind, free-flight bird show at the San Diego Wild Animal Park in 1976. Since then he has produced educational animal programs, or consulted at over 50 zoological facilities around the world. Steve has produced three videos on parrot behavior and training and lectures frequently on parrot behavior. He has written several articles on animal behavior and conducts training workshops each year at his facility in Winter Haven, Florida. Steve is president of both Natural Encounters, Inc. a company of over 20 professional animal trainers, and Natural Encounters Conservation fund, Inc., a company dedicated to raising funds for conservation projects.

Steve Milpacher Steve's interest in parrots began early in life and has continued for more than 30 years. He has kept over 40 species of parrots and participated in breeding loan programs with a number of Canadian Zoos. Steve received a certificate in Endangered Species Management from Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust (now Durrell Preservation Trust). He has spoken at numerous bird clubs, meetings and conferences and has had articles published in Bird Talk, Parrot Society of Australia and PsittaScene magazines. Steve joined the World Parrot Trust as their Director for Business Development in 2007. He is an amateur wildlife photographer and most recently had the opportunity to achieve his dream to travel to Mexico and photograph wild Thick-billed and Maroon-fronted Parrots.
